Search Generative Experience with Direct Links in Snapshot Answers

Google is taking a significant step to enhance the transparency and utility of its Search Generative Experience (SGE) by testing the inclusion of direct links within AI-generated snapshot answers. This move comes in response to previous criticisms that the AI-generated answers lacked direct citations to sources.

Until this test, Google’s SGE only displayed links in the cards at the top right section of the AI-generated answer. Now, users can see links by each section within the text answer itself, providing a clear indication of where the information is sourced from.

Shalom Goodman shared screenshots of this new feature on Twitter, showcasing what the links look like within the text answer. This change is a welcome addition for users who have expressed dissatisfaction with the inability to click directly from the text of the AI-generated answer to the source of the information.

The integration of direct links in the generative answers not only enhances the user experience but also adds a layer of credibility to the information provided. While this feature is still in the testing phase, it is a promising development that many hope will be rolled out more broadly. It reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to making the Search Generative Experience more user-friendly and transparent.
